"Teach A Man To Fish"
Empowering Individual Value
Here at Learning To Fish, we’re committed to investing our expertise and resources in order to further achieve our cause. We support community members in Utah who are experiencing homelessness by assisting them in the process of obtaining steady employment and empowering them with life-long tools and skills to ensure they have the means and ability to sustain a reasonable income and living standard. We work in the details of coaching interpersonal skills, financial accountability, resume building, employment interviewing, and embracing perpetual education and positive individual development.
We measure our success by the qualitative growth and progress of each individual we work with and our goal is that a meaningful experience with us will enable individuals to have continued positive impacts on their community around them.
A Stepping Stone
Climbing in the Hierarchy of Needs
We believe that change can be brought to fruition through the act of conscious and continued decision making. So many wonderful Utah nonprofits currently in place are working diligently to help meet the fundamental needs of those experiencing homelessness in our community and the importance of this work and assistance is critical in helping to establish a foundation where more opportunities are available to those who have, and are currently, experiencing hardship. At Learning To Fish we provide the next step; we assist in providing tools for continued personal security through sustainable self-reliance and employment opportunities.
What It Means To Us
We embrace the famous quote "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime" because we believe in constantly developing skills to improve life. To us, the act of learning to fish is a skill refined over a lifetime and meant to be practiced often.
Meaning Behind Our Name
Learning To Fish was so named because we believe personal development is continual. We understand that each individual person has a great deal of unique knowledge and expertise to contribute to the world and we also believe in the process of continuing to develop and pursue those attributes so that those skills can work to positively sustain a comfortable lifestyle. Life is a process and learning is ongoing.
Stairs, not Circles
Our number one goal is measurable sustainability. Life can throw curve balls; unexpected, uncontrollable, and unfortunate things happen and sometimes life can feel like a vicious cycle. At Learning To Fish our aim is upwards progress, we work to enable positive improvement not unfulfilling patterns.
